Content Creator Apologises After Filming GIIAS Usher Without Consent for 'How to Approach Girls' Video
The controversy over an usher, or SPG, at GIIAS 2026 being filmed without permission has had long-lasting consequences. The man who made an usher at GIIAS 2026 the subject of a video titled ‘how to approach girls’ has now apologised.
As reported by detikcom on Tuesday (4/8/2026), the ‘how to approach girls’ content by a creator known as Bryan Ebem went viral on social media. The video was even highlighted by Habiburokhman, Chairman of Commission III of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI), because the individual had recorded the usher at GIIAS 2026 without permission.
“Recording someone secretly (candid) without consent, especially turning it into ‘how to approach girls’ content for commercial gain or popularity on social media, is an unethical act and a violation of the law,” Habiburokhman told journalists on Monday (3/8).
Habiburokhman stressed that the GIIAS exhibition must be a safe place for everyone. In particular, he said, for those carrying out their duties professionally.
“As Chairman of Commission III of the DPR RI, I affirm that public spaces — including automotive exhibitions such as GIIAS — must be safe and comfortable places for anyone, especially for female workers (ushers/SPGs) who are carrying out their duties professionally,” he said.
Habiburokhman said the victim of the unconsented recording could sue the person who filmed her. The legal basis, he said, is Articles 12 and 115 of the Copyright Law.
“Under Indonesian positive law, the victim can sue the perpetrator. The basis includes, among others, Articles 12 and 115 of the Copyright Law,” he said.
“There are very strong grounds to sue the perpetrator, namely Article 12 and Article 115 of the law prohibiting the reproduction or publication of a person’s facial portrait without permission for commercial purposes, and Article 12 of the Sexual Violence Crime Law, which covers Electronic-Based Sexual Violence (KSBE) if the recording contains forms of harassment or electronic exploitation of a person’s physical appearance without consent,” he added.
Furthermore, Habiburokhman said the victim could also invoke the ITE Law, which governs violations of privacy rights and attacks on dignity in the digital space. He urged the victim or the management/agency concerned to file an official report immediately.
“I encourage and advise the victim (usher/SPG) or the management/agency to immediately file an official report with the South Tangerang (Tangsel) Police, as the police force with jurisdiction over the area where the GIIAS exhibition took place,” he said.
Commission III of the DPR, Habiburokhman said, will ensure law enforcement authorities process the report firmly and professionally. This, he said, is important to create a deterrent effect.
“Commission III of the DPR RI will ensure and oversee law enforcement authorities processing this report firmly, professionally and accountably. This is important to create a deterrent effect for content creators so that they no longer sacrifice other people’s privacy and dignity for the sake of content,” he said.
Bryan Ebem Apologises
Netizens have been busy discussing the video that made an usher at GIIAS 2026 the subject of content titled ‘how to approach girls’. The man who recorded and created the video has apologised.
“There has been quite a commotion over the past few days. I’m Brian, and I want to apologise for all the mistakes arising from my behaviour. I am not justifying anything; I am simply apologising to all parties who feel they have been wronged,” Brian said via his Instagram account @ebemartono on Monday (3/8).
He said he would be more careful in future when uploading video content. He admitted his fault and offered a clarification.
“So, the beginning of making the video was like this. At first it was just for fun. I like meeting new people, just messing about. Meeting foreigners, meeting girls, meeting older men,” he said.
He felt the video he made offered inspiration for introverts to become more confident. He claimed he had no negative intentions behind the videos he created.
“All the accusations that have emerged are perhaps personal in nature; perhaps there are accusations that have surfaced. Once again, I apologise and I am not justifying anything. Going forward, I will sort myself out and set everything straight,” he said.
