Unloading and loading activity at the Customs and Excise post at the Koja Container Terminal (TPK) in Tanjung Priok, Jakarta, appeared relatively quiet on Wednesday afternoon (17/6). The pile-up of containers in the customs inspection lane at Tanjung Priok has begun to decrease after previously causing severe congestion.

Based on CNBC Indonesia’s monitoring at the Koja TPK customs post at 16:00 WIB, inspection activity was not overly busy. Within the inspection area, frozen meat labelled in Arabic script was being examined by Customs and Excise officers alongside the Indonesian Quarantine Agency (Barantin). Other imported goods undergoing inspection included imported bags, motor dynamos, plastic rolls, and various other items. However, no containers carrying components from BYD or Wuling vehicles were present, contrary to earlier statements by Director General of Customs and Excise Djaka Budi. Goods labelled in Mandarin script, indicating their origin from China, were also observed being checked.

Head of Tanjung Priok Customs and Excise, Adhang Noegroho Adhi, stated that the number of containers still undergoing inspection in the red lane as of 17 June 2026 had dropped sharply to around 700 containers, down from 3,100 containers in May. “From nearly 3,100 containers last May, it has now decreased to around 700 hot outstanding containers. We have resolved many of them with the addition of several extra yards we prepared,” Adhang told CNBC Indonesia on Wednesday (17/6/2026).

This progress is the result of efforts by Tanjung Priok Customs and Excise to reduce the container backlog. Several measures have been implemented, including increasing inspection personnel, adding inspection locations at the Jakarta International Container Terminal (JICT) and Koja TPK, extending inspection operations into the evening, and adjusting services. As part of efforts to accelerate the flow of goods, Tanjung Priok Customs and Excise also initiated a series of meetings and coordination with various stakeholders, including the DKI Jakarta trucking association (Aptrindo), producer importers, importer associations, forwarder associations, container depot operators, and Temporary Storage Facility (TPS) operators. Tanjung Priok Customs and Excise emphasised that containers which have received a Customs Clearance Certificate (SPPB) have, in principle, fulfilled their customs obligations and can be immediately removed from the port area.
