Consumers begin to abandon old benchmarks in choosing window film
Japanese window film manufacturer Wincos has noted a change in consumer perspectives when selecting window film. Previously, the level of darkness was the main consideration, but now aspects such as cabin comfort, visibility, heat rejection capabilities, and compatibility with vehicle technology are receiving greater attention. Vice President Director of PT Lintec Jakarta, Fajar Solihin, said that as vehicles become increasingly sophisticated, consumer needs are also evolving. “From our conversations with visitors at GIIAS, window film is no longer judged solely by how dark it looks. Consumers are beginning to pay more attention to cabin comfort, visibility, protection against heat, and its suitability with the technology in the vehicle,” Fajar Solihin said in an official statement on Monday. According to him, consumers are now considering cabin comfort, the ability to reduce heat exposure, driver visibility, and the compatibility of the window film with the vehicle’s technological systems. Furthermore, modern vehicles increasingly rely on technology connected to GPS, cellular communications, and other electronic devices. This condition means the choice of window film material is no longer just a matter of appearance. “Today’s cars are not just a means of transportation, but have become highly connected devices,” Fajar stated. On the other hand, the level of darkness still needs to be adjusted to driving needs and conditions. Visibility at night is an important consideration, especially for drivers using window film with a high darkness level. Installation quality is also a determining factor in the final result. Installation by experienced technicians is necessary to ensure the film is applied properly and does not obstruct the driver’s view. At the exhibition, Wincos introduced several window film variants, including Thermal Shield, Premium Shield, and Wincos Shield. However, the development of consumer preferences shows that the decision to choose window film is increasingly shifting from merely seeking a dark appearance to considering function and suitability with the vehicle’s character.
