Consumer Reports: Toyota and Subaru are the Most Reliable Car Brands in 2026

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Consumer Reports, a consumer research institution, has released a list of the most reliable car brands based on the latest survey of vehicle owners. The results show that Japanese manufacturers still dominate, with Toyota, Subaru, Lexus, and Honda occupying the top positions. Completing the top five is the German brand, BMW. The survey is based on data from vehicle owners in the United States and once again demonstrates the dominance of Japanese manufacturers. Consumer Reports assesses that reliability is an important factor because vehicles that frequently have problems can increase repair costs and take up the owner’s time, especially after the warranty period expires. Therefore, consumers are advised to prioritize brands with a reputation for reliability before determining the model that suits their needs. The study also shows that all-electric vehicles (BEVs) and plug-in hybrids (PHEVs) still have a higher rate of problems compared to conventional cars. In contrast, non-plug-in hybrids remain the most consistently reliable type of vehicle. Early-generation models generally still have the potential to experience production issues before being improved in subsequent years.
