Consumer group slams Secure Parking

JAKARTA: The Consumer Protection organization urged the Jakarta Parking Management Agency (BP Parking) to take legal action against off-street parking operator Secure Parking, and close it down if necessary.

"Secure Parking has long disrespected consumers and the city administration by hiking parking fees whenever they feel like it," Irwan Sukatmawijaya, a member of the executive committee of Consumer Protection, told a media conference on Wednesday.

Consumer Protection said the company had violated several gubernatorial decrees and city bylaws by increasing parking fees in June 2003 without the consent of the City Council and the administration, in addition to a hike from Rp 1,000 (11 US cents) to Rp 2,000 per hour early this month. -- JP
