Consumer Confidence Index Falls to 117.8 in June 2026, BI Remains Optimistic
Bank Indonesia (BI) has released data showing the Consumer Confidence Index (IKK) fell again, recording 117.8 in June 2026, down from 120.9 the previous month. Despite the decline, BI stated that the June 2026 IKK remains at an optimistic level, above 100, indicating that consumer confidence in economic conditions is being maintained. “Bank Indonesia’s Consumer Survey in June 2026 indicates that consumer confidence in economic conditions remains intact,” said Head of BI’s Communication Department, Ramdan Denny Prakoso, in a statement on Wednesday (8/7/2026). Denny explained that the sustained consumer confidence in June 2026 was supported by the Current Economic Conditions Index (IKE) and the Consumer Expectations Index (IEK). The IKE and IEK remained at optimistic levels, at 109.2 and 126.4 respectively, although lower than the previous month’s figures of 112.2 and 129.7. By spending group, consumer confidence in June 2026 remained optimistic across all groups, with the highest IKK recorded among respondents with expenditure above Rp 5 million at 121.4. By age, the IKK also remained at an optimistic level across all age groups, with the highest IKK recorded among respondents aged 20–30 years at 124.3. Denny further explained that consumer perception of current economic conditions remained strong, reflected in the June 2026 IKE of 109.2, which is at an optimistic level (index above 100), although lower than the previous month’s 112.2. “The sustained strength of the IKE was supported by the Current Income Index (IPSI), the Job Availability Index (IKLK), and the Durable Goods Purchase Index (IPDG), which were recorded at 119.8, 101.8, and 105.9 respectively, although lower than the previous month’s figures of 123.2, 105.0, and 108.3,” he stated. By spending group, consumer confidence in current income remained strong across all groups, although most experienced a decline in the index. The highest index was recorded in the expenditure group above Rp 5 million, at 129.2. By age group, the highest index was recorded in the 20–30 years age group, at 129.7. Furthermore, respondents’ perception of current job availability declined across all education levels. However, respondents with undergraduate and academy/diploma education still recorded an index at an optimistic level (index above 100), at 109.0 and 101.2 respectively. Meanwhile, respondents with other education levels were already at a pessimistic level. By age group, the index remained at an optimistic level for the 20–40 years age group, while the group aged above 41 years was at a pessimistic level. In terms of expenditure, the IPDG was at an optimistic level for most spending groups. The highest index was recorded in the expenditure group above Rp 5 million, although it decreased to 108.8. By age group, the highest index was recorded in the 20–30 years age group, followed by the 31–40 years age group, at 114.0 and 110.5 respectively. Regarding the Consumer Expectations Index (IEK), consumer expectations for economic conditions over the next six months are expected to remain strong. This is reflected in the June 2026 IEK of 126.4, although lower than the previous month’s 129.7. The sustained strength of the IEK stems from optimism regarding income expectations, job availability expectations, and business activity expectations, which were recorded at 133.6, 124.4, and 121.2 respectively. “Respondents’ perception of income expectations for the next six months is at an optimistic level across all spending groups. An increase in the index only occurred in the expenditure group above Rp 5 million, which recorded an index of 138.9. Meanwhile, other groups experienced a decline in the index,” he explained.
