Construction works worth Rp 21t

JAKARTA: Capital construction projects in the city next year will amount to Rp 21 trillion, or almost double the value of last year's projects, which were worth a total of Rp 11 trillion.

The chairman of the Jakarta chapter of the National Contractors' Association (Gapensi), Effendi Sianipar, said on Monday that about Rp 7 trillion of the Rp 21 trillion value of the projects would be financed by the city budget, Antara reported.

"The rest will be financed by state-owned companies, city- owned companies and ministries," he said.

This year, the projects funded by the city budget were worth Rp 4 trillion.

He said that this year's Rp 11 trillion expenditure on construction projects was divided up into 8,000 packages and involved 70 percent of the Association's members. There are 5,600 companies that are members of the association.

In 2002, Gapensi still saw violations in the bidding process for construction projects in the capital.

Compared to 2001, however, the number of violations dropped by 40 percent.

"Maybe because of the reform process," he said.--JP
