Bandung, Indonesia — A 56-year-old man named Johan was reported missing after being swept away by the current of the Cikapundung River in the Cidadap district of Bandung City on Thursday evening, 14 May 2026. A joint rescue team is currently conducting a search for the victim. One BBWS Cikapundung volunteer, Awan (21), said the victim was known to be one of the workers at the Nurul Huda Islamic Boarding School. He said the victim was carrying out repairs to the river wall in the area. He noted that the water discharge in the Cikapundung River was relatively low and calm, but suddenly a flood surged in with high speed and large volume. ‘The victim was about to wash a wall trowel and a bucket in the river when the flood came,’ he said. He added that the victim briefly tried to evacuate but ran into a dead end. Then, a local resident saw the victim’s head appear on the surface of the water. ‘The head was seen by a local resident,’ he said.
