A worker, Sugiarto (63), was found dead above the ceiling of a house in Dusun Nitipuran, Kalurahan Ngestiharjo, Kapanewon Kasihan, Bantul Regency, on Friday (14/8/2026) afternoon. The victim is believed to have died after being electrocuted while working.

“It is true that an incident occurred in which a worker died above the ceiling of a house belonging to a resident in Kasihan, Bantul. The victim is indicated to have been electrocuted while carrying out work,” said Bantul Police Public Relations Head Iptu Rita Hidayanto when confirmed on Saturday (15/8).

Rita said the victim’s whereabouts were initially unknown to his colleagues. When working hours ended at around 16.00 WIB, the workers prepared to go home. However, one of the victim’s colleagues, Wakimin, saw Sugiarto’s motorcycle still in the yard of the house.

This suspicion prompted Wakimin to search for the victim. At around 17.30 WIB, he asked another colleague, Agung Waluyo, who then said Sugiarto was in the ceiling area of the house.

Wakimin then climbed a bamboo ladder to check on the victim’s condition. He called out to Sugiarto several times but received no response. When approached, the victim appeared to be motionless.

“The witness then climbed the bamboo ladder to check above the ceiling. The witness called the victim’s name repeatedly but there was no response. When approached, the victim’s stomach was seen to be no longer moving,” he said.

Wakimin then asked Agung for help. Carrying a torch, Agung also climbed up to the ceiling and confirmed the victim was motionless. The two then came down and reported the incident to the project foreman.
