Construction of Tragedy Monument at Bekasi Timur Station Still Under Discussion by KAI
BEKASI — PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) plans to build a monument to commemorate the victims of the accident between the KA Argo Bromo Anggrek train and the Jakarta-Cikarang KRL route at Bekasi Timur Station, Bekasi City.
KAI Commuter VP Corporate Secretary Karina Amanda stated that the concept and location for the monument’s construction are still in the internal discussion stage.
“At present, its placement is still under discussion,” Karina said when confirmed by Kompas.com via message on Thursday (7/5/2026).
The plan to build the monument was previously announced directly by PT KAI President Director Bobby Rasyidin during his inspection of the incident site on Monday (4/5/2026).
“Then earlier, we also want to build a monument here. Please support it,” Bobby said to the media.
According to him, this demonstrates the great sense of loss felt by both the public and KAI towards the victims.
“This is part of our condolences and grief. Of course, this great loss, we want to be part of the family of the deceased victims,” Bobby stated.
He mentioned that public support and empathy serve as motivation for KAI to continue improving services, particularly in terms of rail travel safety.
The incident resulted in 106 victims. As many as 16 people died after receiving treatment, while 90 others sustained injuries. All 240 passengers of the KA Argo Bromo Anggrek were reported to have survived.
