This was discussed during a meeting between Minister of Social Affairs Saifullah Yusuf and the Regent of Tasikmalaya at the Ministry of Social Affairs office in Jakarta on Wednesday (3/6/2026).

The Regent of Tasikmalaya, Cecep Nurul Yakin, was accompanied by the Head of the Social Affairs, Population Control, Family Welfare, and Child Protection Agency (Dinas Sosial PPKB P3A), Wini, the Head of the Public Works, Spatial Planning, Housing, and Environment Agency (Dinas PUTRLH), Deden Ramdhan Nugraha, the Head of the Social Rehabilitation Division, Bonbon Sahroni, and the Head of the Health Service Division of the Health Office, Otong Kusmana.

During the meeting, the Tasikmalaya Regency Government reported that the land preparation progress is targeted to be completed by the end of June 2026. The prepared land covers an area of approximately 8.23 hectares and has been certified.

Cecep stated that the location of the People’s School is about 300 meters from the provincial road and is supported by a plan for the gradual completion of basic infrastructure.

“Land preparation is targeted to be completed by the end of June. Access to the location is relatively close to the provincial road, and the supporting infrastructure is currently being completed,” said Cecep in a written statement on Thursday (4/6/2026).

The supporting infrastructure being prepared includes road access, electricity network, and water supply through boreholes. Road access is being handled in stages by utilizing existing roads before permanent strengthening is carried out.

In line with these preparations, the People’s School in Tasikmalaya Regency has entered the third phase of construction, with the initial phase being land preparation and access provision.

The third phase of construction is scheduled to begin in August 2026 and will be followed by the implementation of construction in October 2026, depending on the technical readiness on the ground.

Minister of Social Affairs Saifullah Yusuf (Gus Ipul) stated that the implementation of the People’s School is carried out through a collaborative mechanism between the central government and local governments.

“The outreach to prospective students is carried out jointly by the local government and the Ministry of Social Affairs, with the final determination made by the regional head,” said Gus Ipul.

The People’s School is designed as a boarding school with a large capacity, which can accommodate approximately 1,000 students.

Nationally, the construction of the People’s School is being carried out in stages at more than 100 locations. The facilities being built include classrooms, dormitories, laboratories, places of worship, and other supporting facilities.

In Tasikmalaya Regency, the People’s School area is also planned to be integrated with the construction of an educational hospital in collaboration with Padjadjaran University.

The meeting also discussed the development of data on recipients of the Health Insurance Contribution Assistance (PBI JK), including data adjustments and the potential for increasing the quota in the coming period.
