Construction of SMA Garuda in South Konawe Reaches 87 Percent, Ready for July 2026 Academic Year

The government has announced that the construction of SMA Unggul Garuda Baru in South Konawe, Southeast Sulawesi, is 87 percent complete and on schedule to be ready for the new academic year in July 2026. Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology Brian Yuliarto stated that the completion of the school building is the main priority, as it will be the first facility used for teaching and learning activities. “The construction progress of the school building has reached approximately 87.58 percent, with a target for structural and functional completion by July 2026 so that the classrooms can be utilised immediately,” Brian said during his inspection. He also instructed that the construction process be completed on time while ensuring the safety and security of students when the facilities are in use. In addition to the main building, supporting facilities such as a canteen and kitchen are being built concurrently. The government has confirmed that 307 students from various regions in Indonesia have been selected as the first cohort of SMA Unggul Garuda. Student mobilisation to the school site is scheduled for 16–19 July 2026, with official learning activities commencing on 20 July 2026. The SMA Unggul Garuda Baru in South Konawe is one of four such schools being developed under President Prabowo Subianto’s priority programme. The other three schools are located in Bangka Belitung, North Kalimantan, and East Nusa Tenggara.
