Construction of Permanent Sekolah Rakyat Building in Ponorogo to Begin in October 2026

Ponorogo, East Java (ANTARA) - The Ponorogo Regency government, East Java, targets the construction of a permanent building for Sekolah Rakyat (SR) to begin in October 2026 as an effort to strengthen educational access for the community.

The Ponorogo Regency Secretary Agus Sugiarto, in Ponorogo on Monday, stated that the local government is currently completing several preparation stages, from finalising the detailed engineering design (DED), technical coordination, to land maturation.

“Land use permits have been completed, and spatial planning is ready. Currently, we are just coordinating the DED and preparing land maturation,” said Agus Sugiarto.

The permanent SR building will be constructed in the Jurang Gandul area, Kadipaten Ward, Babadan Subdistrict, specifically south of the Ban Bunder Circuit.

The land was previously designated as protected paddy land (LSD) and now holds approval for change of use from the Ministry of Agrarian Affairs and Spatial Planning/National Land Agency since February 2026.

Agus explained that the construction of SR is part of the government’s support in expanding educational services, particularly for students from low-income families.

“We want all administrative processes to be clear and clean before physical construction begins,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Principal of Integrated Sekolah Rakyat 5 Ponorogo, Devit Tri Candrawati, expressed the school’s readiness to occupy the permanent building once construction is completed.

Currently, teaching and learning activities are still taking place in a building in the Tambakbayan Small and Medium Industry Centre area.

“The local government strongly supports the existence of Sekolah Rakyat in Ponorogo. We are ready to move if the permanent building is finished,” she said.
