Construction of Permanent Housing Accelerated, PRR Task Force Completes Temporary Housing in North Sumatra and West Sumatra
The Task Force for Accelerating Rehabilitation and Reconstruction (Satgas PRR) following the Sumatra disaster continues to expedite the provision of decent housing for survivors of the hydrometeorological disaster in Aceh Province, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra. These efforts demonstrate significant progress, marked by the completion of temporary housing (huntara) construction on target in North Sumatra and West Sumatra.
Based on Satgas PRR data as of 4 May 2026, all requirements for 1,024 huntara units in North Sumatra have been completed. Meanwhile, in West Sumatra, all 830 planned huntara units have also been fully completed.
On the other hand, the construction of huntara in Aceh Province, the area with the greatest impact, is also showing significant progress. Of the total plan for 18,380 units, 16,785 units have been completed, or about 91%.
Overall, huntara construction in the three provinces has reached 18,639 units out of a total plan of 20,234 units, or about 92%. Huntara construction is a collaborative effort across sectors involving BNPB, the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR/PKP), local governments, TNI-Polri, as well as various humanitarian organisations and communities.
Along with the completion of huntara construction in some areas, Satgas PRR is now accelerating the construction of permanent housing (huntap) as part of the rehabilitation and reconstruction phase. As of 4 May 2026, progress on huntap construction in the three provinces is recorded at 4.2%, with 1,661 units under construction and 248 units completed out of a total plan of 39,501 units.
In Aceh, huntap construction is planned for 29,076 units. To date, 820 units are under construction and 104 units have been completed, or about 2.8%. In North Sumatra, out of a total plan of 7,601 units, construction progress reaches 407 units with 120 units completed, equivalent to 5.3%. Meanwhile, in West Sumatra, out of a plan of 2,824 units, construction has reached 434 units with 24 units completed, or about 15.36%.
The Head of the Satgas PRR for the Sumatra Post-Disaster, Muhammad Tito Karnavian, emphasised that accelerating huntap construction is the top priority after temporary housing needs are met.
“Now we are pushing huntap. All huntap needs data, including for communal huntap, will be submitted to the Ministry of PKP (Housing and Settlement Areas) to calculate budget requirements, then proposed to the Minister of Finance,” said Tito Karnavian in his statement on Monday (4/5/2026).
