Construction of People's Schools Accelerated, Target Ready for Use in the 2026 Academic Year
The government is accelerating the construction of the Sekolah Rakyat (SR) project as part of efforts to broaden access to education, with a target of readiness for the new academic year in 2026. Public Works Minister Dody Hanggodo has reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring the project proceeds according to quality standards, timelines, and occupational safety. During each visit to construction sites, he provides direct guidance to maintain the quality of project implementation. State-owned construction firm PT Brantas Abipraya (Persero), as the executing contractor, states that it is expediting the development of Sekolah Rakyat at various project locations under its purview. This acceleration is aimed at ensuring the educational infrastructure is ready on time, in line with the government’s target to provide wider and more equitable access to education. Brantas Abipraya’s Corporate Secretary, Dian Sovana, said the company has undertaken various improvement and optimisation efforts in project execution. “In every project, implementation dynamics are part of the construction process, but Brantas Abipraya remains focused on solutions through comprehensive evaluations and acceleration measures to ensure completion in accordance with the contract,” Dian stated. The acceleration of Sekolah Rakyat construction is supported not only by project management strategies but also by intensified on-site work. Dian revealed that, under certain conditions, work is carried out day and night, with up to 500 workers per site operating in shifts. In terms of design, Sekolah Rakyat adopts an integrated dormitory concept with uniform facilities across Indonesia. These facilities include school buildings from primary school (SD), junior high school (SMP), to senior high school (SMA), teacher apartments, student dormitories, mosques, multipurpose buildings, canteens, and sports amenities such as football and basketball fields. This model is designed to create an integrated learning environment while supporting student character development.
