Construction of Natuna People's School 32 Facilities to Begin in May 2026

Natuna (ANTARA) - The facilities for the Integrated People’s School (SR) 32 in Natuna Regency, Riau Islands Province (Kepri), are scheduled to begin construction in May 2026 by the central government. The Head of SR Integrated 32 Natuna Bumi, when contacted from Natuna on Tuesday, stated that Natuna Regency is one of the areas in the Riau Islands that is ready for the implementation of this construction. According to him, this readiness is demonstrated by the provision of a special plot of land by the Natuna Regency Government in the area of the Grand Mosque Baitul Izzah Complex. He explained that the new academic year for the People’s School will begin in July 2026, in line with the general education calendar. However, the permanent building is estimated not to be ready for use at the start of that academic year. Nevertheless, the government has prepared a solution to ensure that teaching and learning activities continue, as the currently available classrooms are estimated not to accommodate the number of new students. In line with central government policy, the number of students to be recruited is 90 per level. Thus, the total number of new students in Natuna is estimated to reach 270, considering that the People’s School covers education levels from primary school to high school. As a temporary solution, portable classrooms will be built while waiting for the permanent building construction to be completed. “Our target is to recruit around 100 students from primary to high school levels. We want each learning group not to be too crowded, around 20 to 25 students per class,” he said. He added that teaching and learning activities at the Natuna People’s School actually began in 2025 with a total of around 70 students from all levels. The details consist of one primary school learning group, two junior high school learning groups, and one high school learning group. Currently, teaching and learning activities are still utilising part of the facilities at the Natuna Hajj Dormitory. In the future, for the accommodation needs of new students, the school will utilise rooms previously used by People’s School teachers at the Hajj Dormitory. Meanwhile, teachers will be provided with temporary accommodation outside the dormitory area. “For the time being, rooms at the Hajj Dormitory will be used for students. As for the teachers, we will find accommodation for them outside while waiting for the new facilities to be completed,” he said.
