The construction of the Krueng Tingkerum Bridge, or the Kuta Blang Bridge, in Bireuen Regency, Aceh, is targeted to undergo testing and become functional starting from 20 September 2026. The acceleration of construction is being implemented to restore connectivity on the Banda Aceh-Medan national route, which was impacted by bridge damage caused by natural disasters.

The bridge, which is being constructed by the Ministry of Public Works, has a length of approximately 150 metres and is situated on the national highway connecting Banda Aceh and Medan.

As of early September, construction has entered its final stages. The pouring of the parapet, or the bridge’s safety walls, has been completed, and the next phase of work will involve asphalt paving.

Imran, from the Aceh Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Acceleration Task Force (PRRP Aceh), explained in Banda Aceh on Tuesday, 8 September, that the acceleration is being carried out to ensure the bridge can be operational before rainfall increases.

Imran noted that while the construction was previously targeted for completion in November, the deadline has been moved forward to September.

According to the task force, the initial target communicated in June suggested that the Kuta Blang Bridge would only be finished in November, with full operation in December. However, a warning was issued in June to complete it by September, as meteorological data from the BMKG indicates that Aceh will experience very high rainfall starting in October.

The government continues to oversee the completion of the bridge construction to ensure that connectivity on the Banda Aceh-Medan route can return to normal as soon as possible.

This new bridge is expected to end the reliance on temporary routes, while simultaneously smoothing public mobility and the distribution of logistics across the eastern part of Aceh.
