Construction of CNG Mother Station in Muara Enim Accelerated

The government has confirmed that the construction of a compressed natural gas (CNG) mother station in Tanjung Enim, Muara Enim Regency, South Sumatra, is being accelerated despite several administrative obstacles. Chief of the Presidential Staff Dudung Abdurachman stated that the project, which is part of the National Strategic Programme (PSN), will proceed this year, with document completion being carried out in parallel. Dudung conveyed this during a coordination meeting on the acceleration of the CNG mother station development in Tanjung Enim on Friday, 3 July 2026. According to Dudung, one of the administrative aspects that still needs to be resolved concerns the adjustment of the Detailed Spatial Plan (RDTR). “Indeed, there are several issues, but because everyone agrees that this is for the nation and the state and this is a national project, a national strategic programme that we must develop,” said Dudung, quoted from a written statement on Saturday, 4 July 2026. The former Chief of Staff of the Indonesian Army said that the resolution of administrative aspects will continue according to applicable mechanisms and provisions through coordination with the regional government and relevant ministries. However, Dudung stressed that the administrative process and the execution of work will be carried out simultaneously so that the project completion target for this year can be achieved. “In completing the administration itself, because this must be done immediately, the target is in accordance with this year, so this project will be worked on immediately,” said Dudung. Dudung added that the construction of the CNG mother station in Tanjung Enim is expected to have a direct impact on the community. “The most dominant impact felt will certainly be opening up employment opportunities, then national energy security,” he said. The retired army general also explained that South Sumatra was chosen as the construction site because it has abundant energy resource potential, both natural gas and coal. The location is considered to have a strategic role in supporting the development of the national energy sector. On the same occasion, the President Director of PT Perusahaan Gas Negara Tbk (PGN), Arief Kurnia Risdianto, conveyed the readiness of this state-owned enterprise in optimising domestic gas. Arief appreciated the support of the Chief of the Presidential Staff and his team in overseeing the optimisation of domestic gas, particularly the development of Tanjung Enim coalbed methane (CBM) and the distribution infrastructure in Pagardewa. “With the infrastructure and experience that PGN possesses as Pertamina’s Gas Subholding, we are ready to carry out our role as a link between the potential of domestic gas supply and national energy needs, while providing benefits to the community and contributing to the regional economy,” said Arief. For Arief, the support of the Presidential Staff Office is important to help ensure that coordination runs more effectively, with a clear division of roles and follow-up actions among all stakeholders.
