Construction of 4 Zebra Crossings in Tebet Targeted for Completion This Week

JAKARTA - The construction of four zebra crossings at four points along Jalan Dr. Soepomo in Tebet, South Jakarta, is being expedited by the DKI Jakarta Road Infrastructure Agency and is targeted for completion this week.

“For the four points, the target is to complete them, God willing, within this week,” said the Head of the Data and Information Centre (Kapusdatin) of the DKI Jakarta Road Infrastructure Agency, Siti Dinar Wenny, to Kompas.com on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, Wenny continued, the zebra crossing illustrated with Pac-Man game characters, painted by several graffiti artists in front of Gereja Bukit Moria, will not be erased or repainted for now.

“However, the point of the zebra crossing that was painted by the community on their own initiative will be arranged, taking into account the existing conditions in the field,” she explained.

Wenny stated that as of today, Tuesday (31/3/2026), two of the four zebra crossings being worked on by her agency have been completed.

The two zebra crossings are located in front of Universitas Sahid and opposite Sekolah Kinderfield.

Previously reported, the zebra crossing on Jalan Dr. Soepomo towards Pasar Minggu came under spotlight after being repainted by artists and road damage activists.

Not just white blocks on black asphalt, this zebra crossing also received touches of illustrations from the Pac-Man game characters.

“If we as residents use white paint, it seems ordinary. So this is more like poking at the government. Like, we can do it, why can’t the government,” said Ijoel to Kompas.com on Sunday (29/3/2026).

The zebra crossing made with spray paint is estimated to last only one month.

The Head of the South Jakarta Road Infrastructure Sub-Agency, Rifki Rismal, said the zebra crossing would be erased and replaced with a standard zebra crossing in accordance with existing standards.

“Yes, it will definitely be done soon (erased). Later, the Road Infrastructure Agency will handle it,” Rifki said when contacted separately on Sunday.
