Construction of 340 Permanent Houses for Padang Flash Flood Survivors to Proceed Gradually
The construction of approximately 340 permanent housing units (Huntap) for flash flood survivors in Padang, West Sumatra, is being carried out gradually based on land readiness. The Padang City Government, alongside the Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Acceleration Task Force (Satgas PRR), inspected the construction site in the Balai Gadang area on Thursday (17/9).
Padang City Regional Secretary, Raju Minropa, stated that the construction of these permanent houses is part of an effort to provide decent housing for communities affected by the disaster. He noted that the city government continues to coordinate with relevant parties to accelerate the implementation.
“The Padang City Government continues to support and coordinate the acceleration of this Permanent Housing (Huntap) construction, so that its implementation can proceed according to the planned stages,” said Raju.
According to Raju, the construction is expected to be completed in phases so that affected communities can immediately gain certainty regarding their place of residence.
Brigadier General Pol Yopie Indra, Chairman of the PRR Task Force for the West Sumatra Region, said the inspection was conducted to ensure the construction process on the ground follows the plan. Construction is being carried out in parallel with the land clearing process.
“Today, we from the PRR Task Force conducted a direct physical visit to the construction site of the Huntap, which is planned to consist of approximately 340 units,” said Yopie.
He added that some units in the initial construction phase have already been completed. Subsequent construction will be carried out gradually, following land availability.
“At this moment, we can see that some houses have been completed. Construction will continue to be carried out by colleagues from Budha Suci in parallel, so that as soon as land clearing is finished, construction will proceed immediately,” he said.
The inspection was also attended by the Head of the Padang City Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) Hendri Zulvito, the Head of the Public Works and Spatial Planning Department (PUPR) Malvi Hendri, the Head of the Housing and Settlement Department (Perkim) Tri Hadiyanto, and several other relevant officials.
The PRR Task Force and the Padang City Government ensured that coordination will continue throughout the construction process, including adjusting the implementation of construction to the readiness of the land.
