Construction of 259 Merah Putih Cooperative Outlets in Gresik Completed
Gresik, East Java (ANTARA) – A total of 259 outlets for Merah Putih Village/Urban-Ward Cooperatives (KDKMP) in Gresik Regency, East Java, had been completed by 19 October 2026, out of 356 cooperatives that have been granted legal status in the area.
Gresik Deputy Regent Asluchul Alif said completing construction of the outlets was one step towards supporting the cooperatives’ operations, enabling them to conduct business and benefit the community.
“The programme’s success is measured not only by the number of cooperatives established or outlet buildings completed, but also by the cooperatives’ ability to run productive businesses,” he said in a statement issued in Gresik on Sunday.
According to Gresik Regency Government data, in addition to the 259 completed outlets, six are still under construction and 91 have yet to be built.
Of the 356 KDKMP cooperatives, 330 are village cooperatives and 26 are urban-ward cooperatives, all of which have been granted legal status.
The Gresik Regency Government has also designated 190 KDKMP cooperatives for verification and validation of their operational readiness.
The designation is based on data from the Village Cooperative Management Information System (SIMKOPDES) and recommendations for locations deemed ready for verification and validation by PT Agrinas Pangan Nusantara (Persero).
Alif said accelerating the cooperatives’ operations required coordination across sectors, including among sub-district and village governments, as well as support from the Indonesian Military (TNI) and National Police (Polri).
He also stressed the importance of cooperative managers acting professionally by identifying local economic potential, developing business strategies, building partnerships and managing business activities in a planned and accountable manner.
Managers, board members and supervisors must also perform their duties within their respective authorities to ensure sound cooperative governance.
Through the development of KDKMP, the Gresik Regency Government hopes cooperatives will provide a platform for developing leading village and urban-ward products, expand market access for micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs), and create job opportunities for the community.
