Construction booms in KL
KUALA LUMPUR (AFP): Malaysia's construction industry, crucial to the nation's dream of becoming a developed state in 25 years, is set to be the biggest local revenue earner this year, a government agency said yesterday.
The building sector is expected to chalk an additional 33.9 percent in earnings for 1995, compared to the 15.4 percent expansion forecast for the transport division, the second largest portion of the Malaysian business pie, the statistics department said.
Outlining its Business Expectations Survey of Limited Companies for the first six months, the department said other sectors expected to enjoy higher revenue were retail (14.1 percent), wholesale (13 percent), manufacturing (11 percent) and finance (8.7 percent).
The department said 126 companies which responded to the survey did not anticipate any operational constraints this year.
