Construction begins on nine second-phase Red and White Fisherman Village projects in Dompu
Dompu (ANTARA) - The Dompu Regency Government, West Nusa Tenggara, has begun constructing nine second-phase Red and White Fisherman Village (KNMP) projects valued at Rp27.85 billion to strengthen infrastructure and economic activities for coastal communities across six districts.
The construction, funded by the State Budget (APBN) via the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries (KKP), was marked by a groundbreaking ceremony led by the Regent of Dompu, Bambang Firdaus, in the coastal area of Malaju Village, Kilo District, on Wednesday.
Bambang stated that the KNMP programme is not merely focused on physical infrastructure development, but also serves as a manifestation of government attention towards improving the welfare of coastal communities while preserving marine ecosystems.
“KNMP is not just about building physical structures. It is a tangible form of government attention to honour the fishing profession, increase the prosperity of coastal families, and maintain the sustainability of the marine ecosystem,” he said.
He noted that the KNMP is part of the government’s blue economy policy, which is directed towards making the marine sector a driver of economic growth while strengthening the sovereignty and independence of coastal communities.
According to him, the programme also supports the integrated downstreaming of the marine and fisheries sector from upstream to downstream, including the strengthening of cold chains and the processing of fishermen’s catches.
“This is expected to break the cycle of low-priced sales of fishermen’s catches by implementing cold chain systems and product processing,” he added.
Bambang stated that the presence of KNMP is also aimed at building the economic independence of the community through village/sub-district cooperatives acting as marketing aggregators, as well as providing supporting facilities for fishing activities.
He urged the residents of Malaju Village and other KNMP beneficiaries in other areas to maintain all constructed facilities and utilise them for the common good.
“Let us maintain cleanliness, security, and harmony in this environment. Let us make the Red and White Fisherman Village our shared pride,” he said.
The Head of the Dompu Marine and Fisheries Office, Amiruddin, stated that the second phase of KNMP construction covers nine locations spread across six districts.
These nine locations include Hu’u Village in Hu’u District, Jambu Village in Pajo District, Kwangko Village in Manggelewa District, Malaju and Karama Villages in Kilo District, Soro and Tolokalo Villages in Kempo District, as well as Pekat and Nangamiro Villages in Pekat District.
“The total budget for the second phase of KNMP is Rp27.85 billion, sourced from the State Budget through the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries,” he said.
He noted that each location received a budget allocation of approximately Rp2 billion to Rp3 billion. Malaju Village received the largest allocation, amounting to Rp7.29 billion.
Amiruddin explained that KNMP Malaju is equipped with several facilities and infrastructure to support fishing activities, including generator houses, fisherman workshops, cold storage facilities, and various other supporting amenities.
According to him, the construction of these facilities is expected to support fishing activities while enhancing the management and added value of fishery products for coastal communities.
