JAKARTA - The Sanur Special Economic Zone (SEZ) continues to grow with the start of construction on Oakwood Sanur Bali. This project is claimed to be Asia’s first luxury health and wellness residential development, directly integrated into an international medical zone managed by PT Hotel Indonesia Natour (InJourney Hospitality). Built on a 8,500 square metre plot, the project, a collaboration between PT Jaya Bumi Kencana and The Ascott Limited, combines residential living with a health ecosystem. A crucial aspect of the project is its strategic partnership with Bali International Hospital. This collaboration includes health monitoring services for residents and rapid emergency medical access, designed to support senior living and health recovery in a controlled environment. Transforming Sanur into an international health destination is a strategic step to capture the potential of the medical tourism market, which has previously flowed abroad. By combining world-class health facilities and global-standard hospitality services, Bali aims to strengthen its position as a hub for medical care and psychological recovery. The President Director of PT Jaya Bumi Kencana, Alex Widjaja, emphasised that this integration is a solution to the gap in the medical residential segment in Indonesia. According to him, the company is addressing a long-unmet need in Indonesia for premium housing truly integrated with international health facilities. In agreement, the President Director of PT Hotel Indonesia Natour, Christine Hutabarat, views the project as a breakthrough for the national tourism industry. “This collaboration reaffirms our commitment to delivering high-quality services and strengthening Indonesia’s position as an international health and wellness destination,” said Christine. Oakwood Sanur Bali plans to build 227 residential units, divided into 148 serviced apartments and 79 residences. Architecturally, the building adopts the Neovernacular Tropical Harmony concept, an approach that aligns Balinese tropical aesthetics with modern structural efficiency through natural lighting and semi-outdoor balconies. The Country General Manager of The Ascott Limited Indonesia, Philip Barnes, stated that the presence of this project contributes to building the ecosystem in the Sanur area. Targeted for completion in 2028, the project is expected to attract expatriates, medical professionals, and families needing independent living facilities with health oversight. The unit ownership status uses a 30-year right to use scheme, which can be extended, providing a legal foundation for residents within the special economic zone.
