Constitutional Court to Hold 'Graduation' Ceremony for Anwar Usman and Welcome Liliek and Adies Kadir

The Constitutional Court (MK) will hold a retirement ceremony for Constitutional Justice Anwar Usman and welcome two new Constitutional Justices on Monday (13/4/2026) afternoon. According to ANTARA, the event for Anwar Usman’s retirement and the welcoming of the two new Constitutional Justices will take place in the Plenary Courtroom of the MK Building in Jakarta at 4:00 PM WIB. “The process will be held in the presence of the MK Chief Justice and all Constitutional Justices, attended by the respective families of the justices,” said the Head of Public Relations and Protocol Bureau of the MK, Mohamad Faiz. In his career, Anwar Usman was elected as Deputy Chief Justice of the MK on 14 January 2015 and was entrusted to serve as Chief Justice of the MK from 2018 to 2023. The two new Constitutional Justices are Liliek Prisbawono Adi and Adies Kadir. President Prabowo Subianto inaugurated Liliek Prisbawono Adi as a Constitutional Justice replacing Anwar Usman on Friday (10/4/2026) at Merdeka Palace. Liliek’s appointment as a Constitutional Justice is based on Presidential Decree of the Republic of Indonesia Number 36/P of 2026 regarding the Dismissal and Appointment of Constitutional Justices proposed by the Supreme Court. He completed his Master’s degree in Business Law at Padjadjaran University, Bandung, in 2013. He completed his doctoral studies in law at Airlangga University in 2021. Liliek was born in Bojonegoro on 27 October 1966 and began his judicial career in 1992 as staff at the Karawang District Court. He served as a High Court Justice at the Medan High Court in 2024. Adies Kadir was inaugurated as a Constitutional Justice replacing Arief Hidayat based on Presidential Decree Number 9/P of 2026 regarding the Dismissal and Appointment of Constitutional Justices proposed by the House of Representatives. Adies was born in Balikpapan on 17 October 1968 and previously served as Deputy Chairman of the DPR RI. The retirement and welcoming ceremony for the Constitutional Justices will be held after the MK conducts a judicial review session of laws starting at 10:30 AM WIB. Based on the court schedule shared by the MK, there are nine hearings scheduled for today, including six judicial review sessions of the new Criminal Code with the agenda of hearing testimony from the DPR RI. Two judicial review sessions of the PPHI law with the agenda of preliminary examination (II); a judicial review session of the Advocates Law with the agenda of preliminary examination (I); and a material review of the Election Law and similar regulations regarding restrictions on the education of legislative members with the agenda of preliminary examination (I).
