A member of House Commission I, Amelia Anggraini, has assessed that the Constitutional Court’s ruling to abolish the unilateral forfeiture of unused internet quota represents a win-win solution for the public and the telecommunications industry. “This Constitutional Court ruling is a win-win solution for the public and the telecommunications industry in Indonesia,” Amelia said when contacted on Saturday (25/7). She assessed that the ruling was not intended to kill the telecommunications industry’s business model. The Court emphasised the availability of service choices for the public so that paid-for quota balances can still be utilised. “This means there is still room for businesses to innovate and develop various product schemes that suit market needs,” Amelia stated. Going forward, the most important thing is how the government, together with regulators, telecommunications operators, and all stakeholders, translate this ruling into regulations that provide legal certainty, protect consumer rights, and simultaneously maintain the investment climate and sustainability of the national telecommunications industry. “Thus, public protection and industry growth can go hand in hand, rather than being pitted against each other,” she said. She stated that House Commission I respects the Constitutional Court’s decision as part of the constitutional mechanism for protecting public rights. “Amid the increasing importance of internet access as a daily necessity, this ruling serves as a reminder that consumer interests need adequate attention,” she concluded.
