JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives Sufmi Dasco Ahmad has backed the Constitutional Court’s ruling that political parties failing to meet the 30% female candidate quota face disqualification.

Dasco confirmed the provision will be incorporated into the revised Election Bill.

“Since the Constitutional Court’s decision is final and binding, we will include it in the Election Bill revision,” Dasco said at the Senayan Parliamentary Complex in Jakarta on Tuesday, 26 May 2026.

He stated that many women now have the capacity and capability to serve in legislative roles at regional, provincial, and national levels.

“We support this requirement, provided the rules clearly define what happens if the 30% quota is not met,” he added.

This is necessary to prevent legal loopholes when implementing the regulation.

“We must avoid potential loopholes that may arise once the rule is enforced,” he said.

In its ruling, the Constitutional Court stated that political parties can be disqualified from specific electoral districts if they fail to meet the minimum 30% female representation in their candidate lists.

“Article 245 of Law No. 7 of 2017 on General Elections (State Gazette of the Republic of Indonesia Year 2017 No. 182, Supplement to State Gazette No. 6109) is declared unconstitutional under the 1945 Constitution,” said Constitutional Court Chief Justice Suhartoyo when delivering the ruling on Monday, 25 May 2026.
