Constitutional Court proposes Rp67 billion budget increase for 2027

The Constitutional Court (MK) has proposed an additional budget of Rp67 billion for 2027, bringing its total funding requirement to Rp427.8 billion.

The proposal was presented during a working meeting and public hearing with House of Representatives (DPR RI) Commission III at the parliamentary complex in Jakarta on Monday.

MK Secretary-General Heru Setiawan said the proposal was a follow-up to the outcome of a working meeting and public hearing with Commission III on 15 June 2026.

According to him, during that meeting the MK obtained approval to propose an additional budget beyond the ceiling set by the Ministry of Finance of Rp360.8 billion.

“Following up on this, the MK has submitted a letter requesting an additional Rp67 billion,” said Heru.

He detailed that the additional budget includes an allocation of Rp45 billion for case handling programmes, including international cooperation in the fields of law and constitutional affairs, international conferences, technical guidance on litigation practice at the MK, and efforts to enhance constitutional awareness.

In addition, Rp21.8 billion is allocated for strengthening anti-corruption culture and integrity, procuring videotron displays for courtrooms, renovating MK buildings in Jakarta and Bekasi, and procuring and revitalising various supporting facilities.

These facilities include ambulances, generator sets, polyclinic equipment, CCTV systems, printers, laptops, multimedia devices, remote trial cameras, air conditioning for the central data server, and information technology infrastructure.

“Thus, the total additional budget we are requesting is Rp67 billion, so that the overall budget requirement of the Constitutional Court, if approved, would become Rp427.8 billion,” he said.

Commission III member Andar Amin Harahap expressed support for the proposed budget increase.

“This Rp67 billion seems small. But since it has been proposed as such, we will fully support it,” said Andar.

In the meeting’s conclusions, Commission III accepted the MK Secretary-General’s explanation regarding the 2027 budget ceiling set by the Ministry of Finance at Rp360.8 billion.

Commission III also stated that it would advocate for the proposed additional budget and programmes submitted by the MK amounting to Rp67 billion, bringing the total budget requirement to Rp427.8 billion.
