Constitutional Court Officially Releases Anwar Usman, Welcomes Two New Justices
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Anwar Usman has officially entered retirement as a Constitutional Court (MK) justice by participating in the retirement ceremony at the MK Courtroom, Central Jakarta, on Monday (13/4/2026). During the event, MK Secretary General Heru Setiawan read excerpts from the Presidential Decree regarding the dismissal and appointment of constitutional justices. “With honour, dismissing Professor Dr. Anwar Usman, S.H., M.H., as a constitutional justice effective from 6 April 2026, accompanied by thanks for his dedication and services during his tenure,” stated Heru while reading Presidential Decree Number 36/P of 2026. “Appointing Dr. Liliek Priabawono Adi, S.H., M.H., as a constitutional justice effective from the time of taking the oath or promise,” said Heru. All implementations of these presidential decisions will be followed up by the Chief Justice of the Constitutional Court. The decisions take effect from the date of issuance. “Appointing Prof. Dr. Ir. H. Adies Kadir, S.H., M.Hum., as a constitutional justice effective from the time of taking the oath or promise,” said Heru. As known, Adies Kadir is the MK justice replacing Arief Hidayat, who has also reached retirement age. Thus, the composition of constitutional justices undergoes changes following the end of Anwar Usman’s tenure and the entry of two new justices who will strengthen the Constitutional Court institutionally moving forward.
