Constitutional Court Justice Visits IKN, Sees Progress Firsthand and Offers Unexpected Comment

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Head of the Nusantara Capital Authority (IKN), Basuki Hadimuljono, and his staff received a visit from Constitutional Judge Arsul Sani, together with the Secretary-General of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Indonesia, Heru Setiawan, at the Central Government Core Area (KIPP) Nusantara on Saturday (01/08/2026).

The visit began with a presentation on the progress of the Nusantara area’s development at the IKN Authority City Hall, during which Basuki said the visit was an opportunity to report on infrastructure developments in the government district, particularly the construction of the judicial area project at KIPP Nusantara.

“Thank you for this visit. We are reporting progress on infrastructure and community development. We would also like to express our gratitude, including for the Constitutional Court ruling, because it has continually strengthened our resolve to continue building IKN,” said Basuki.

According to the construction progress presentation, average building progress in the judicial district has reached 11.8%, while road construction in the judicial district has reached 27.6% over a length of 7.8 kilometres. Specifically, the Constitutional Court and Judicial Commission building recorded average physical progress of 12.41% as of 29 July 2026.

The Constitutional Court building is planned to have a total floor area of 44,691 square metres. It will be equipped with various supporting facilities and rooms, including a plenary courtroom with a capacity of 400 people, judges’ deliberation rooms, institutional workspaces, and various other supporting areas.

During the visit, Arsul Sani said the purpose of the trip was to see first-hand the progress of the Constitutional Court building in the IKN judicial district. He judged that the explanation provided by the IKN Authority gave grounds for optimism that construction would be completed on schedule.

“We from the Constitutional Court, from the secretariat-general, and I, representing the Constitutional Judges, want to see directly the progress of the Constitutional Court building in the judicial area. Alhamdulillah, guided by the Head of the IKN Authority, we have received updates and clear explanations from the IKN Authority team about the existing progress. This is certainly something to be proud of and inspires optimism that the construction can be completed according to schedule,” said Arsul.

After the presentation, the Constitutional Court delegation toured the judicial and legislative project areas and planted trees at the Judicial Plaza. Arsul expressed his confidence in the continued development of IKN going forward.

“Nusantara Capital is our future capital together and, in my view, it must succeed and must be completed in accordance with what has been decided by the President as Head of State and Head of Government. We are confident that under Mr Basuki’s leadership, this can be completed well,” Arsul concluded.
