There are startling facts disclosed by a Constitutional Court (MK) judge during the lawsuit hearing concerning the diploma of Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka, under case number 01/PHPU.PRES-XXIV/2026. During the session on Friday (2/10/2026), the judge summoned the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education, as well as the Education Attachés from the Indonesian Embassies in Singapore and Australia.
The facts disclosed by the Constitutional Court judge pertain to the high school equivalence certificate (Suket) of the Vice President. The judge delivering this information was Saldi Isra.
He stated that the high school equivalence certificate belonging to Gibran Rakabuming Raka was issued in 2019. “It is related to a letter issued by the Ministry of Education and Culture on 6 August 2019,” Saldi said during the hearing on Friday (2/10/2026).
He further explained that a minimum education of high school (SMA) or its equivalent is one of the requirements to run as a vice-presidential candidate in the 2024 Presidential Election. Meanwhile, Vice President Gibran attached the high school equivalence certificate in his documents as proof of his education.
“Because this certificate concerns the secondary education that was equated,” said Saldi. “Please explain to us the process regarding the issuance that ultimately resulted in the release of this education equivalence certificate,” Saldi continued, addressing the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education.
According to official Constitutional Court data, the petition was filed on 10 September 2026 and registered on 17 September 2026. The preliminary examination was scheduled for 21 September 2026 at 19:00 WIB. The case relates to the dispute over the results of the 2024 Presidential and Vice-Presidential Election, which has been brought forward again in 2026.
For context, Gibran completed his secondary education up to the O Level at Orchid Park Secondary School in Singapore. He then continued his studies through a pathway programme at UTS Insearch in Australia. Subsequently, the brother-in-law of the Governor of North Sumatra continued his education at the Management Development Institute of Singapore (MDIS).
Previously, it was reported that the former Chairman of the General Elections Commission (KPU), Hasyim Asy’ari, admitted that his office did not directly clarify Gibran’s educational requirements as a vice-presidential candidate during the 2024 Presidential Election. This was stated while testifying as a witness for the Respondent, the KPU, in the hearing for case number 01/PHPU.PRES-XXIV/2026, which questions the educational requirements of Gibran Rakabuming Raka as a candidate in the 2024 Presidential Election.
