Constitutional Court Judge Anwar Usman Bids Farewell: This Is My Final Session, I Apologise

Constitutional Court (MK) Judge Anwar Usman has announced his departure. He stated that today’s ruling hearing represents his final court session.

“Before I read out the ruling, perhaps this is the last hearing I will attend,” Anwar said during the session held at MK headquarters in Central Jakarta and livestreamed on the MK’s YouTube channel on Monday, 16 March 2026.

Anwar noted that he will have completed exactly 15 years of service at the MK on 6 April next. He apologised for any shortcomings during his tenure at the court.

“On 6 April 2026, I will have completed 15 years of service at the Constitutional Court. Of course, over such a long period there are matters that may have been displeasing, whether intentionally or unintentionally, and for this reason from the depths of my heart I wish to offer my sincere apologies,” he stated.

Anwar Usman has served as an MK judge since 2011. According to the MK website, his 15-year tenure as judge will conclude on 6 April 2026. Usman will also turn 70 years old on 31 December 2026.

The Supreme Court (MA) has also conducted a selection process for Anwar’s successor. Most recently, the MA has confirmed three candidates to replace Anwar:

  1. Dr Fahmiron, S.H., M.Hum, Senior Judge at the Denpasar High Court

  2. Dr Liliek Prisbawono Adi, S.H., M.H, Senior Judge at the Medan High Court

  3. Dr Marsudin Nainggolan, S.H., M.H, Chief Judge of the North Kalimantan High Court
