Constitutional Court Asked to Bar Presidential and Vice-Presidential Family Members from Running in Presidential Election; Jokowi Comments
Citizens have filed a lawsuit against electoral law and requested the Constitutional Court (MK) to ban family members of the President and Vice-President from running in the presidential election. Indonesia’s seventh president, Joko Widodo (Jokowi), reminded citizens that every citizen holds equal constitutional standing.
“Every individual, every citizen holds equal constitutional standing,” Jokowi said at his residence in Sumber, Banjarsari, Surakarta, as reported by detikJateng on Friday, 27 February 2026.
He stated that every citizen has the right to file a lawsuit. He called on all parties to respect whatever the Constitutional Court’s decision will be.
“So anyone can file a judicial review with the Constitutional Court regarding anything related to law. Well, we will await the Constitutional Court process, and then we must respect the Constitutional Court’s decision,” Jokowi said.
