Constitutional Commission slammed

JAKARTA: Members of the People's Consultative Assembly (MPR) told the Constitutional Commission on Monday to focus on its original job of assessing the amended Constitution instead of attempting to draft a new one.

The lawmakers said the commission was assigned to harmonize articles in the amended Constitution.

"We hope the commission will focus on harmonizing the articles," Assembly member Andi Mattalatta of the Golkar faction said during a meeting with commission members here.

The commission was invited to present its progress report during the meeting.

The Constitutional Commission was set up in October last year and will complete its duties in April.

Deputy chairman of the commission Ishak Latuconsina said the institution would take the criticism into account. -- JP
