Constitution needs amending

BOGOR, West Java: The Crescent Star Party (PBB) renewed its demand for amendments to the 1945 Constitution on Tuesday, saying it would help the nation emerge from the present adversities.

A PBB campaigner, Anwar Sanusi, told a crowd of about 3,000 packing the Heulang soccer field here on Tuesday that without substantial changes, the constitution would benefit much from status quo forces.

"Those who refuse to reform the constitution are the new status quo forces. We must be prepared to take them on," Anwar said.

Apart from PBB, Golkar Party, Republican Party, Workers Solidarity Party (PSP), Independence Vanguards Party (IPKI) and Democratic Islam Party (PID) also held their final campaign here on Tuesday.

Supporters of the parties took to the streets following their respective campaign rallies, but no violence was reported. (24)
