Considerations Behind Iran's Ambassador Meeting JK and Jokowi

Iran’s Ambassador to Indonesia, Mohammad Boroujerdi, has explained the reasons for his outreach to various national figures in Indonesia, such as former President Joko Widodo and former Vice President Jusuf Kalla, amidst the war between Iran and the United States-Israel. He aims to invite them to join the anti-war campaign against Iran.

“We want to convey one voice, namely the anti-war campaign,” he said during a meeting with Din Syamsuddin and several Islamic figures at Din Syamsuddin’s home in South Jakarta on Friday, 3 April 2026.

Boroujerdi also visited several religious scholars. The objective is to request prayers and support for Iran’s struggle.

According to him, the visits to various national and religious figures in Indonesia are a response to expressions of condolences to Iran. He feels it is appropriate to reciprocate those sentiments with thanks.

During these visits, he also conveyed updates on the situation in Iran. He hopes to receive support and prayers from Muslims in Indonesia.

Former Vice President Jusuf Kalla previously received a visit from Boroujerdi at his private residence in South Jakarta on Tuesday, 3 March 2026. Kalla was accompanied by former Minister of Law and Human Rights, Hamid Awaluddin, in that meeting.

The discussion covered recent developments in Iran and the potential role of Indonesia in pushing for conflict resolution.

Boroujerdi also met Joko Widodo in Solo, Central Java, on Wednesday, 1 April 2026. The meeting discussed regional developments, including the impact of the conflict involving Iran.
