Conjoined twins open eyes

JAKARTA: Nia Ayu Lestari, one of the conjoined twins just
separated in a five-hour operation on Saturday, has managed to
open her eyes and move her hands.

"We have started to give her liquid glucose. The twins will
also be given special formula milk," Sudjatmiko, a member of
surgical team from Cipto Mangunkusumo General Hospital, said on
Sunday.

At the moment, however, Nia and sister Mia Ayu Lestari were
yet to pass the critical stage as they were suffering from
respiratory problems and Nia from bleeding.

The critical stage, Sudjatmiko said, will continue for the
next couple of days with the recuperation stage to take one to
two weeks.

"Once the twins' condition is stable, we will move on to other
surgical procedures and skin treatments," he said. -- Antara
