JAKARTA – The work from anywhere (WFA) policy to welcome Eid al-Fitr 1447 Hijriah officially comes into effect today, Monday 16 March 2026. This measure has been adopted by the government to distribute the flow of public movement to prevent congestion during the peak of the 2026 Eid exodus.

The policy is outlined in two principal regulations: Ministry of State Apparatus and Bureaucratic Reform Circular Letter Number 2 of 2026 for civil servants (ASN) and Ministry of Labour Circular Letter Number M/2/HK.04/II/2026 for private sector workers.

For civil servants, the government has established a total of five WFA days divided into two periods: before the Nyepi national holiday (which falls close to Eid) and after the Eid al-Fitr holiday. In contrast to civil servants who have a fixed schedule, the private sector arrangement is a recommendation that can be adapted according to company internal policy. However, Labour Minister Yassierli has emphasised several important points for companies implementing WFA:

Private sector employers should not count WFA days as part of employees’ annual leave during the Eid holiday period.

State Apparatus and Bureaucratic Reform Minister Rini Widyantini has stated that WFA aims to provide flexibility for employees without disrupting public services. With WFA on 16-17 March, civil servants and private sector workers granted permission can begin their exodus earlier, given that the peak movement is predicted to occur on 18-19 March 2026.

The government hopes that with this scheme, the burden on toll roads and public transport facilities will reduce significantly compared to previous years. The public is urged to maintain productivity whilst working from their hometowns.

According to Transport Minister Dudy Purwagandhi, the implementation of flexible working arrangements will support the smooth running of the Eid transport operations. The policy is hoped to flatten the predicted peak of the exodus several days before Eid.

The policy applies to civil servants (ASN) and private sector employees.
