Congestion on Ciledug highway

Congestion on Ciledug highway

From Pelita

The Ciledug highway in Tangerang, West Java, grows worse
everyday. Vehicles to and from Ciledug during peak hours often
pile up for two or three kilometers. It is no surprise,
therefore, that daily commuters suffer from stress and
frustration because of traffic jams.

One can imagine how dense the traffic is on that road in peak
hours since there is no other road that connects Tangerang with
the southern part of Jakarta. Road blocks on that route are
increasing because of incoming and outgoing traffic from the
Ciledug terminal. This means vehicles have to crawl at a snail's
pace to enter the terminal.

Commuters are left with no alternative but to take the Ciledug
route towards Tangerang or in the direction of South Jakarta.

Given the constant congestion on this public artery road, it
is time to solve this problem which grows worse by the day.

Alternative routes should be found to lessen traffic density,
and another terminal should be constructed to accommodate the
increasing volume of vehicles.

If an alternative road could be constructed in the foreseeable
future, the flow of heavy traffic, especially trucks during the
day could be curbed. Drivers should only be permitted to drive
along this route from 10 p.m. till 5 a.m. This measure would help
reduce Ciledug's traffic problem.

Priority should be given to public transportation from
Tangerang to Jakarta and return because most of the daily
commuters live in Ciledug and work in Jakarta. It is a pity if
they have to waste most of their productive hours on the road,
which, in turn would affect various sectors in their life.
