Congestion Hotspots Identified on Pantura Route in West Java
Cirebon — The Pantura (North Coast) route in Java is expected to remain one of the primary routes chosen by commuters during the Eid holiday period.
However, several points along this route are susceptible to congestion due to high vehicle volumes. Rina Kumala Sari, Head of the Major National Road Implementation Office for DKI Jakarta–West Java under the Directorate General of Highways at the Ministry of Public Works, identified several congestion hotspots along the Pantura route, including the areas around Simpang Jomin, Simpang Mutiara, and Cikopo.
Additionally, traffic density may increase in the Cirebon region, particularly around Pasar Palimanan or Pasar Palahuluk Raya. Nevertheless, traffic conditions along the route often influence commuters’ decisions in determining their travel route.
Several factors typically guide the public’s choice of route for their journey home. These factors include travel time, road capacity and condition, traffic density levels, availability of facilities such as rest areas, and travel safety considerations.
Some commuters also consider alternative routes by choosing the Pansela (South Coast) route. This route is considered to have lower traffic density compared to Pantura and offers scenic coastal views throughout the journey.
To anticipate potential congestion on Pantura, authorities, in coordination with relevant agencies, have implemented various traffic management measures. One measure involves closing several U-turn points along the route.
Additionally, authorities have established several posts that can be utilised by commuters to rest if they experience fatigue during their journey. These posts have been prepared as part of efforts to support smooth and safe travel during the Eid exodus along the Pantura route.
