Confirmed! With PPN DTP, Air Ticket Prices May Rise by a Maximum of 9-13%
Coordinating Minister for the Economy Airlangga Hartarto stated that the government is focused on ensuring that the increase in avtur prices does not impose an excessive burden on the public. As of 1 April 2026, avtur prices at Soekarno-Hatta Airport have risen to around Rp23,000 per litre. Avtur prices themselves contribute about 40% to airline operating costs. Therefore, the government has prepared strategic mitigation measures to keep air ticket prices stable. “So what we are safeguarding is the ticket prices,” said Airlangga during a press conference on Transportation and Fuel Policies at the Coordinating Ministry for the Economy office on Monday (6/4/2026). In this regard, he explained, the government through the Ministry of Transportation has raised the fuel surcharge by 10%, based on the 2019 upper tariff limit. It has then been adjusted again to 38%, the same for both jets and propellers. Previously, jets were only 10%, propellers 25%. Now all are adjusted to 38%. “To keep the increase in air ticket prices affordable for the public, the government is limiting the ticket price rise to around 9-13%,” Airlangga emphasised. To achieve this, the government is covering the 11% VAT (PPN DTP) for scheduled commercial air transport tickets in the domestic economy class. “With that calculation, the amount of subsidy provided by the government is around Rp1.3 trillion per month,” he said. “So if we prepare for 2 months, that’s Rp2.6 trillion. So that the ticket price increase is a maximum of 9-13%,” Airlangga stressed. This fuel surcharge and PPN DTP policy will apply for 2 months. “We will continue to evaluate whether the geopolitics or the war in the Middle East is still ongoing,” said Airlangga.
