Confident that Indonesia's Economy Can Grow 8 Percent in 3 Years, Purbaya Reveals His Strategy
Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa has revealed the government’s strategy to pursue an 8 percent economic growth target. The strategy includes accelerating fiscal reforms, strengthening the private sector’s role, and forming a task force to cut investment barriers. “We are designing faster economic growth, and faster still. We—I, Mr Airlangga—are serious about this,” Purbaya said at an event in the Indonesia Stock Exchange building, Jakarta, on Monday (27/4/2026). The government is now establishing an acceleration task force led by Coordinating Minister for the Economy Airlangga Hartarto. The task force is tasked with resolving various investment and development barriers. Purbaya believes these steps can drive growth above the historical trend of 5 percent to 5.5 percent. He noted that economic performance remains stable amid global pressures. Growth in the first quarter is estimated to reach 5.5 percent and continue in subsequent periods. Fiscal reform serves as the main pillar. “We are improving our reforms, real reforms. In the first three months, tax revenue grew 20 percent, and it will grow more,” he stated.
