Confidence in PDI

Confidence in PDI

From Media Indonesia

It is saddening that the Indonesian Democratic Party (PDI) obtained very few votes in the recent election. Why is it saddening? PDI may only get 10 seats in the House of Representatives (DPR). This would inevitably mean that the people's confidence in the party is decreasing. In other words, PDI's executive board (a result of the Medan Congress) has failed in its mission.

There are various factors which contributed to this failure. First, the controversial Medan Congress illegally ousted Megawati Soekarnoputri as PDI chairwoman. The people questioned the legality of the congress which catapulted Buttu Hutapea and others to the helm of PDI. The people then evaluated the situation and decided whether or not to put its confidence in PDI.
