Condom Wrappers and Liquor Bottles Found in Cawang City Park
Cawang City Park in East Jakarta has come under scrutiny after being suspected of being used for prostitution during the night hours. Suspicions of illicit activity in the park have been reinforced by the discovery of contraceptive wrappers and bottles of alcoholic beverages.
A red-coloured contraceptive wrapper was found near a large tree inside the park. Additionally, used lubricant gel packets were discovered covered by scattered leaves. Various wet tissue packets branded Magicmax were also found, along with several used condoms scattered on the ground. Between gaps in broken tree trunks, two open bottles of alcohol with remaining contents were discovered.
Packaging for drinks or sexual enhancement supplements was also found, with all these items scattered throughout Cawang City Park in areas suspected to be used for illicit activities by individuals.
The entry point allegedly used by perpetrators at night is located near the underpass of the Cawang-Grogol Toll Road on Jalan DI Pandjaitan in East Jakarta. This opening represents the endpoint of the park’s boundary fence with the pavement, and individuals are suspected to have entered through the gap between the park fence and wall during night hours.
At the base of this opening were several large rocks, allegedly used as footholds to climb into Cawang City Park. The opening has since been sealed with concrete caulking, which is currently supported by plywood panels.
The closure was carried out by the East Jakarta Municipal Government working with relevant agencies. “There are two points that we attempted to seal permanently today through concrete work, in cooperation with the Sub-district Office of Parks and City Forests,” said Cawang District Head Dimas Prayudi. He revealed information about misuse of the park’s function, stating that joint officers discovered gaps in the fence frequently used by residents to enter the park informally.
In addition, the East Jakarta Municipal Government has installed two high-intensity lights in the Cawang City Park area to address suspected prostitution activities. “The Sub-district Office of Road Infrastructure in East Jakarta will increase lighting in Cawang City Park by installing two high-intensity lights,” said Dimas.
Dimas explained that the installation of high-intensity lighting was undertaken to ensure the park area is clearly visible from outside, particularly during night hours. “We are increasing lighting so that activities within the park can be seen from outside. With these two lights, areas that were previously dark are now much brighter,” he said.
