Bandung Regent Dadang Supriatna offered condolences at the funeral homes of two victims swept away by a strong river current during heavy rain in Kampung Girang Deukeut RT 01/RW 09, Desa Banjaran Kulon, Kecamatan Banjaran, on Thursday (16/4/2026). The victims were a student named Ginasyah Lintang Sari (18), a Year XII pupil at SMAN 1 Banjaran, and Agus Sutisna (52), a security officer at the same school. During the incident, Gina was observing the flood conditions when she suddenly fell into Sungai Cibanjaran, triggered by the collapse of a soil retaining wall (TPT) or embankment along the riverbank. Seeing the event, school security officer Agus attempted to rescue Gina. However, the raging floodwaters in Sungai Cibanjaran swept both victims away. When they were found, both were already deceased. “I am offering condolences at the funeral homes of the late Neng Gina and Pak Agus, who were affected by the disaster due to the collapse of the river embankment or wall,” said Regent Kang Dadang Supriatna (KDS), accompanied by Bandung Deputy Regent Ali Syakieb and Banjaran Sub-District Head Kasta Wiguna. He added, “On behalf of the Bandung Regency Government, I extend my deepest sympathies and condolences for the passing of Neng Gina and the late Pak Agus, who tried to save Neng Gina when she was swept away by the river current.” KDS also acknowledged that after inspecting the site, several locations indeed required immediate repairs, such as the collapsed TPT and the river bridge connecting Desa Ciapus and Desa Banjaran Kota, which must be fixed promptly. “I request that the Sub-District Head, Village Head, and the Public Works and Spatial Planning Department (Dinas PUTR) immediately conduct an assessment, and if possible, handle it through a pentahelix approach to expedite the work,” said KDS. He advised that during extreme weather or heavy rain, residents should seek safe locations to prevent incidents like the one that befell victim Gina from recurring. “What happened to the late victim is indeed fate, and insha’Allah, we believe she has a good end. Likewise, Pak Ersih, the victim’s biological father, along with the family, are granted patience and resilience in facing this calamity and trial,” stated KDS. He emphasised that such incidents serve as a reminder that in these uncertain weather conditions, we must be more cautious. Previously reported, the tragic event involving Gina and Agus began when the retaining wall near the river collapsed, and they were swept away by the very strong current. As a result, Gina, who was passing by the location, fell in and was carried off by the river current. Seeing Gina being swept away, Security Officer Agus attempted to rescue the victim by jumping into the river. In the incident, there were six people swept away by the river current. Fortunately, five of them were saved by residents who immediately jumped into the river despite being carried away for a while. However, Gina’s life could not be saved when she was successfully evacuated. “There were six people carried away by the current. One person died, and the other five were successfully rescued,” explained Ciapus Village Head Usep Suhendar. The victims’ bodies were eventually found in the river flow passing through Kampung Cipaku, Desa Tarajusari, Kecamatan Banjaran. Residents then conducted evacuation and returned the bodies to the funeral homes in Kampung Girang Deukeut. Meanwhile, the body of Security Officer Agus Sutisna was found the following day, on Thursday (16/4/2026), around 10:40 WIB in Kampung Badra, RW 09, Desa Tarajusari, Kecamatan Banjaran. Head of Prevention and Preparedness Division of the Bandung Regency BPBD, Diki Sudrajat, confirmed that both victims were found deceased. “Gina’s body was found caught on Cipaku Bridge. Whereas Agus’s body was found in Kampung Badra, Desa Tarajusari, in the Citepus River flow,” said Diki. Diki explained that the incident began when Gina approached the location to check the flood conditions on the bank of Sungai Cibanjaran. However, the river TPT collapsed, and Gina fell into the fast-flowing river. Seeing the incident, several residents attempted to provide assistance. However, the strong river current instead swept away some of those trying to help. One of them was Agus Sutisna, who spontaneously jumped into the river to save the victim. “Victim Agus intended to help, but due to the very strong and uncontrollable current conditions, he was swept away along with victim Gina,” said Diki. A joint team from BPBD, TNI-Polri, Satpol PP, Linmas, and volunteers immediately conducted a search until late at night. However, Agus’s body was only found the next day.
