Condition of SMPN 02 Ngamprah Deplorable, West Bandung DPRD Admits Oversight
The Chair of Commission IV of the West Bandung Regency DPRD, Nur Djulaeha, has admitted to an oversight regarding the condition of SMPN 02 Ngamprah. Nevertheless, Nur claimed that routine supervision of schools in West Bandung is carried out. “We are quite disappointed with the conditions that occurred today. We may have been caught off guard that such conditions could occur in an urban area,” Nur said after inspecting SMPN 02 Ngamprah on Monday (24/8/2026).
Nur said that the oversight function continues to operate. The West Bandung DPRD always conveys in every working meeting that facilities and infrastructure are a representation of the education sector. “That is what we always emphasise,” she said.
As is known, the condition of facilities, infrastructure and the environment of SMPN 02 Ngamprah came under scrutiny after going viral on social media. The conditions included filthy toilets, broken glass, damaged blackboards, peeling walls, broken ceramic tiles, and roofs and ceilings that were decayed and collapsed.
SMPN 02 Ngamprah had previously achieved the National Adiwiyata School designation from the Ministry of Environment. Nur said that the condition of SMPN 02 Ngamprah serves as a lesson for her office and the West Bandung Regency Government to tighten supervision. This is intended to ensure that no other schools are in such a deplorable condition as SMPN 02 Ngamprah in the future.
“Earlier it was also conveyed to the Regent that it is not only this school. Do not let something go viral before action is taken. God willing, we always carry out supervision of elementary and junior high schools and the results are directly reported to the Head of the Agency,” Nur said.
She acknowledged that many reports have been received regarding the condition of schools under the authority of the West Bandung Regency Government. Her office hopes that repairs will be carried out in stages this year according to budget capacity.
“Regarding budgeting, this year many reports have been submitted by us. If they cannot be completed this year, we will continue them in 2027,” Nur said.
