Condition of Andrie Yunus: Serious Injury to Right Eye
The right eye of Andrie Yunus, Deputy Coordinator of the Commission for Missing Persons and Victims of Violence (KontraS), has suffered the most serious damage from a caustic liquid attack.
According to information from KontraS’s Instagram account on Saturday, 14 March, Andrie is currently receiving specialist treatment from an eye surgery doctor.
“Based on medical examination results, Andrie Yunus suffered caustic liquid burns affecting approximately 24 per cent of his body due to inflammatory reaction from the liquid that contacted his skin. Injuries are present on his face (particularly the right side), right eye, both hands and chest,” according to the @kontras_update account on Sunday, 15 March.
“The most serious condition is on the right eye, which is currently receiving specialist treatment from an eye surgery doctor,” it continued.
KontraS revealed that Andrie is currently undergoing intensive care in sterile conditions to support his recovery process. KontraS appealed to the public to trust medical personnel and allow space for his family to focus on supporting the victim.
“We also hope that society will continue to monitor the legal process so that this case is thoroughly investigated and the perpetrator is prosecuted in accordance with the law,” KontraS stated.
Andrie Yunus became a victim of a caustic liquid attack by an unknown assailant that resulted in serious injuries across his body, particularly on his right and left hands, face, chest and eye area.
The incident occurred shortly after Andrie completed recording a podcast at the Indonesian Legal Aid Foundation (YLBHI) office titled “Remilitarisation and Judicial Review in Indonesia” at approximately 23:00 Western Indonesian Time on Thursday, 12 March.
Andrie is currently receiving emergency protection from the Witness and Victim Protection Agency (LPSK).
The LPSK team, led by Deputy Chair of LPSK Sri Suparyati, has taken a series of initial response steps to ensure the victim’s medical needs are met promptly.
These steps include coordinating with Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital regarding the victim’s medical care, intensive coordination with the KontraS Steering Committee, providing physical protection through LPSK security personnel, and conducting preliminary assessments with the victim’s family to identify further protection requirements.
