The Advocacy Team for Democracy (TAUD) has provided an update on the condition of Andrie Yunus after 30 days of treatment following the acid attack by personnel from the TNI’s Strategic Intelligence Agency (BAIS). TAUD member Fatia Maulidiyanti stated that Andrie is still receiving intensive care and has undergone five skin and eye operations at Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital in Jakarta. “Andrie will continue treatment for several months ahead, and in four months, Andrie is scheduled for another eye operation,” Fatia said in front of RSCM on Sunday, 12 April 2026. According to her, Andrie has had skin graft operations on his thigh, chest, neck, and arm due to the acid pouring. The corrosive liquid also caused burns on other parts of his body, including his face. As per RSCM’s statement, the corrosive liquid poured on the Deputy Coordinator of Kontras has a strong concentration upon contact with human skin. She said the liquid, suspected to be sulphuric acid, has the potential to cause blindness in Andrie’s vision. “We invite everyone to pray that Andrie’s eye transplant operation can take place and he can recover,” Fatia stated. Andrie Yunus was doused with corrosive chemical liquid on 12 March while passing through Jalan Salemba I-Talang, Central Jakarta. Medical records indicate he suffered burns over 20% due to the attack by the BAIS TNI personnel. Last week, the Military Police Centre handed over the case file and evidence to the Military Prosecutor 07-II Jakarta. If the file is deemed complete, Andrie’s case will begin to be tried at the Military Court 08-II Jakarta. According to TNI’s Main Police statement, there are four perpetrators of the pouring: NDP, SL, BHW, and ES, from the air and sea branches. NDP holds the rank of captain, SL and BHW are first lieutenants, while ES is a second sergeant. Civil society coalitions, including Andrie, reject the legal process being handled through the military court mechanism. They demand that this premeditated attempted murder case be tried in a general court, accompanied by the establishment of an independent Joint Fact-Finding Team (TGPF).
