Jakarta, Kompas.com – Residents are complaining about the excavation project on Jalan Raya Condet in East Jakarta, as it frequently causes traffic congestion and leaves the road surface uneven.

The excavation was previously targeted for completion in early March or 1 March 2026. However, work activities are still ongoing as of now.

Based on Kompas.com’s observation at the location on Wednesday (2 March 2026), several excavation points were still visible at non-adjacent intervals.

One unit of heavy equipment, an excavator, could be seen operating at the project site. Several trucks were also parked around the excavation area.

Some excavation points that had been closed were marked to signal drivers to slow down their vehicles.

Officers were also seen regulating traffic flow to allow vehicles to move in rotation and prevent congestion on Jalan Raya Condet.

Although no significant traffic jam was observed during the monitoring period, motorists still had to queue to pass through the area.

Agus (42), a parking attendant in the Condet area, said the excavation work had been ongoing for approximately two weeks. He noted that traffic jams frequently occur in the mornings and towards the time of breaking the fast during Ramadan.

“Usually there is congestion in the morning, but it was not too bad this morning. There is often congestion in the evening, especially when people are looking for snacks to break their fast,” said Agus when met on Wednesday.

“If possible, the closure should be neat, not like before when it became uneven,” he said.

Similar sentiments were expressed by Ahmad (37), a local resident, who hopes the work will be completed soon so traffic flow returns to normal.

“If possible, finish it soon so traffic returns to normal. Condet is already congested without the excavation, let alone with it,” said Ahmad.
