Concerns Over Becoming a "Long Weekend": ASN Friday WFH Policy Urged for Regular Evaluation
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Member of Commission II of the House of Representatives from the PKB faction, Muhammad Khozin, expressed his concerns regarding the implementation of Work From Home (WFH) for Civil Servants (ASN) every Friday within a week.
However, Khozin acknowledged that the government has discretionary authority to decide on such policies.
“Although in our view, the choice of this day is not ideal because it is feared it will turn into a long weekend, the government has discretionary authority in determining WFH as a manifestation of government administration,” Khozin told Kompas.com on Wednesday (1/4/2026).
He urged the government to ensure that the implementation of WFH on Fridays meets the target of reducing fuel oil consumption.
“In addition, ASN productivity must remain maintained in providing public services,” he said.
Furthermore, beyond the issue of implementing WFH on Fridays, Khozin urged the government to use this momentum to seriously design better public transportation in the regions.
Moreover, the implementation of WFH also serves as a momentum for controlling air pollution.
Previously, the government officially established the work-from-home policy for civil servants (ASN) every Friday.
“The implementation of WFH for ASN in central and regional agencies is carried out for one working day per week, namely every Friday,” said Coordinating Minister for the Economy Airlangga Hartarto during a virtual press conference on Tuesday (31/3/2026).
Airlangga explained that Friday was chosen because work activities on that day are not like Monday to Thursday.
He stated that the four-day work week policy had previously been implemented in several ministries and agencies during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Airlangga also emphasised that public services will continue to run despite the WFH policy every Friday.
“Public services will continue to operate, and productive activities including banking, capital markets, and others will continue to run. It is up to the offices to arrange it with certain applications,” he said.
